Sub.: Complaint about the dishonour of my cheque.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a savings account holder in your bank at _______ branch, bearing account number _________. I had issued a cheque (no. _________) dated _________ in favour of (Name of the Party) for a sum of Rs. _________ (Rupees __________________ Only). As informed by (Name of the Party), the said cheque was presented by his/their bank for realisation on (Date). However, I am surprised and very disappointed to note that it was dishonoured by your bank.

As per my information, by the closing hours of (Date), there was a credit balance of Rs. _________ in my account. My account has an approved overdraft facility of Rs. _________. Hence, the said cheque could have been honoured easily if you consider these two vital pieces of information. However, to my dismay, the cheque has been dishonoured and the said party has been complaining about this ever since.

You would appreciate that such dishonour matter would not only enable the said party to take legal action against me but also this matter would unnecessarily impact my goodwill and credit worthiness among other parties.

would appeal to you to look into the matter immediately and provide me with valid reasons for the dishonour of the cheque. Kindly further note that I have issued another cheque for the same amount to the said party, I trust there will not be any negligence in honouring the cheque this time.

Kindly do the needful and oblige.

Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,

Thanks for the sample letter. Perfectly drafted.

I wish it would be made compulsory on the banker to at least call twice the customer on his registered mobile number or leave a sms to him before dishonouring the cheque.

Once the cheque is dishonoured, it puts the customer through a lot of undue processes and tensions to make things right again. Especially, the goodwill is at stake.
