Sample Complaint Letter Against Excess Bill to Electricity Board

As soon as you come to know about any discrepancies in the electricity bill, without any further delay, you should lodge a complaint at the electricity board about it.

You should carry with yourself the following things while visiting the electricity board office for ready reference of the officer who is taking record of your complaint:

1) Previous bill original or photocopy;
2) Current bill original copy;
3) Photo of latest meter reading captured through your mobile (some officers would like to see it);
4) Complaint letter regarding the error in bill you are complaining.

1) Submit a complaint online through the portal of the electricity board (not very effective and timely so far).
2) Fill in the complaint letter form prescribed by the electricity company and submit it at their concerned branch office.
3) Carry all the required bills and documents to the concerned electricity officer, explain your matter and he will fill in the complaint form and lodge the complaint.
4) Write your complaint letter with all required details, enclose the bills with it and submit it at the office.

Dear Sir,

I am currently residing at ................., which is having an electricity connection bearing consumer number ............, area code ............ Today, I was shocked to receive the current electricity bill (no. .....) for an amount of Rs. .......... My monthly electricity bill amounts generally range between Rs. ........ to Rs. ......... The bill for this month (month name) is almost twice the amount of my regular bills.

I investigated the matter from my side to find out the error and I noticed that the meter reading unit for the current bill is showing more units than the current meter reading which is impossible.

Current meter reading units: ..........

As you will notice, there is clearly an error in it. I, therefore, kindly request you to correct the current bill and issue a fresh bill for the current month. Otherwise, please adjust the excess amount to be paid by me for the current wrong bill amount in the next month's bill amount.

  6. Even after lodging the complain with all details and giving a fee of Rs 100 for the charge to lodge the complain,more than 15 days have passed and no one has responded till date to verify the faulty meter .

  7. Hello everyone... I have the same problem, I have a farmhouse has electricity connection. There was helpers living in farmhouse , electric bill yes I used to pay regular. But since last year there was non living in farmhouse , so no usage of electricity but later I found farmhouse electric bill amount RS. 6000 /- plus . I understand since there was no one living in farmhouse for a year already electric bill will be minimum . So I didn't pay regular, but I was shocked to see the bill. Please anyone suggest me , thank you

    1. Each bill has the break up of what's the fixed charges and what's the energy charges and other charges details. Also it has the details about what the unpaid arrears was for last month. Compile all the unpaid bills. Check each charges and arrears details. When you do this analysis, you will find out how the amount summed up to be so large. And, if you find any irregularities in the amount, then you can visit the concerned electricity office and lodge a complaint.

    I have the same issue with this month current bill, as iam getting i shocked to see the amount has been rised 3 times more than my regular, its 7853/-. Normally we are paying for our house 1500 - 2500 , but this time this much amount. And we are only 2 members in our home not using ac or washing machine even. Still this much bill. Iam going to complaint tomorrow. Thanks for the format

  10. I have the same issue with this month current bill.on may month we paid Rs.300 and we went to our native place for two months.Now our current bill is Rs.900.Our Consumer number is 03007001865

    1. Please visit nearest electricity board office and lodge a written complaint. Otherwise, you can use their website to lodge the complaint, if such an option is available in their website.
